As the technical authority for ADF transition and having been the inaugural Director General of the Joint Transition Authority in 2020, I know transitioning from ADF service can be a challenging period for some personnel and their families. The majority of veterans do transition well, however some need more support and we continue to look at ways to improve the transition experience for all members and their families.
It is working in partnership with organisations like the NSW Governments Veterans Employment (VEP) program that can help assist veterans and their families. They have a fantastic workshop which flows on from the Job Search Preparation support delivered as part of the ADF transition process. Their workshop is targeted at developing applications and interview techniques for the NSW Public Sector job application process. VEP have seen over 2200 veterans employed in new roles within the NSW Public Sector since establishment, as part of the Centenary of Anzac.
I was delighted that NSW VEP were recognised by winning the Prime Ministers Veterans Employment award in 2021 for Sector Excellence in Supporting Veterans Employment. This award recognised all your hard work and your achievements in supporting veteran’s employment at the state, national and local levels of government, raising awareness of the value of employing veterans and helping veterans find roles within the NSW Public Sector.
Thank you for being a leader in the field of veteran’s employment and continuing your support for veterans and their families.
